Dryer Vent Cleaning Script

In this section we are going to cover some of the dialogue you will have with the client. It’s important to remember that this dialogue is an up-selling tool as well as education for the homeowner. How well you communicate with your client will determine how much they like your service and whether they are going to call you back again and refer you. It is also very important to be polite, pleasant, punctual and clean because this will lead to many referrals. 95% of my new clients come from referrals from my existing  clients.

  • Say hello with a smile, ask them how they are doing?
  • Go to the dryer and ask them if they’ve ever cleaned it before?
  • If they did how long ago?
  • If they have never cleaned it then ask them how long have they lived in that house?
  • Are they seasonal, in other words how much of the year is the dryer being used?
  • Is the dryer taking too long to dry?

As I mentioned earlier most of the clients will watch you work because they’re curious. That’s actually a good thing it allows you time to explain to them the dangers of not cleaning the dryer vent.

The dangers are - 88% of house fires start in the dryer because of lint buildup and airflow constraint. Airflow constraint makes the dryer run hotter and that’s when they tend to catch on fire or break.

You are merely educating the client who is completely unaware of the fact that the dryer is not a safe machine, most people will run the dryer and go to sleep or go to the store which is a dangerous mistake, always be home and awake when running the dryer or any other appliance. I often tell them that their dryer is really an oven and has a brightly lit heating coil inside that they can’t see.  Once they hear that then they understand just how scary dryers really are. When you tell them all these things you’re really setting them up for a callback in one year and that’s why all of this conversation has to take place.

Don’t be the guy that comes in says two words does the job and leaves, you need to up-sell your business that doesn’t happen by itself.  Take into account that your clients need to be educated they don’t realize this is something that needs to be done on a regular basis.

The frequency of cleaning depends on the amount of usage of the dryer. For example:  3-5 loads per week is a once a year preventative cleaning.  But some families have kids and pets and need it more frequently, so maybe 2 time per year if evidence shows a lot of accumulation in a short amount of time.

When a lot of lint comes out of the vent I usually don’t vacuum it up right away so they can see it, then they understand what I’m telling them , the fear becomes real and the callback becomes real also. If their machine was really dirty they will tell all their friends about it who will then call you.

Everything I have told you so far can be checked by going online, this information is everywhere you are telling them the absolute correct reality of dryer vents getting clogged up with Lint and the dangers that causes.

Another very important part of keeping your clients in touch with you is a magnetized business card with all your information on it including today’s date the future cleaning date which would be probably a year from date of service and you will put this on the front of their dryer and make sure they see it. Not only can they find your information when they need it but they can see when it was cleaned last and if they’re past due for a cleaning.

Be pleasant, punctual, professional, clean and informative, that goes a long way for generating business. Every time somebody calls me that was referred by someone else they always say they were told how nice I was and what a good job I did. That’s what you want, people don’t like to invite someone to their house they don’t feel good about this is all about selling yourself.

Fire Script

Did you know that 80% of all house fires start in the dryer? The dryer needs to blow the hot humid air generated in the dryer out of the building to the outside. When the lint accumulates it limits the airflow out of the dryer vent which causes the dryer to overheat causing breakdown such as the heating element and thermostat breakdown, and yes drastically increases the possibility of a house fire. Lint is highly flammable.

They should never leave the dryer running if they are going to leave the house and they should never leave it running especially if they are going to sleep, it is not safe to run the dryer and leave it unattended. Remember it's an oven!

These are helpful hints for your clients but their purpose is to make your clients understand the inherent dangers of not cleaning the dryer vent on a regular interval so that they will call you frequently.  These are facts, you are not deceiving your clients. You must understand most people have no idea about any of this ,you must educate them. You can also let them know that all this information can be found online or by speaking with their insurance agent, that way they know you are not just trying to sell them on something that’s not true.
